TRCO at the 14th TAWIRI Scientific Conference December, 2023

Tanzania Research and Conservation Organization (TRCO) actively fosters collaboration with local, national, and international organizations to advance biodiversity research and conservation. In line with this goal, TRCO participated in the 14th TAWIRI Scientific Conference held at the Arusha International Conference Center (AICC) from December 6th to 8th, 2023. The conference theme was “Human-Wildlife Coexistence for Biodiversity Conservation and Socio-Economic Development”.

Celebrating Team Excellence: TRCO Researchers Captured in a Moment of Unity! Meet the brilliant minds behind our success—from left to right: TRCO Director Mr. Michael Kimaro, Fenrick Msigwa (Fundraising Manager), Hillary Mrosso (Communication Manager), and Deputy Managing Director Mr. Nyemo Chilagane.
Nyemo Chilagane, the Deputy Managing Director of TRCO gave a talk on pangolin projects conducted by TRCO in the Ruaha-Rungwa ecosystem and Burigi-Ibanda-Rumanyika ecosystem and what further TRCO plans for pangolin research and conservation in the different ecosystems of Tanzania.
Mr. Nyemo Chilagane presented findings on the pangolin products involved in illegal trade that shed light on the challenges facing pangolin conservation.
Fenrick Msigwa presented at the conference parts of the key results on Trophy hunting and the associated perspectives from local communities: A project conducted in Rungwa Game Reserve, Tanzania.
TRCO Researcher Mr Elisante Kimambo, presented a poster to TAWIRI conference participants. The poster was titled “Occupancy, Illegal Trade Flows, and uses of Pangolins in the Burigi-Ibanda-Rumanyika Ecosystem.”
TRCO Managing Director, Mr. Michael Kimaro, shared the valuable insights as a Ph.D. candidate from the University of Groningen. His compelling talk focused on ‘’The efficacy of electric fencing in addressing human-wildlife conflict in western Serengeti”.

The conference proved invaluable for TRCO, enabling connections with researchers and collaborators working across different regions. This fosters collective efforts towards biodiversity conservation. TRCO remains dedicated to partnerships and knowledge exchange, both locally and internationally, to ensure the conservation of Tanzania’s rich wildlife resources.

Additionally, TRCO extends its sincere congratulations to TAWIRI for organizing this successful conference in Tanzania. We look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts to conserve Tanzania’s vital wildlife resources.
